Controller, Management, Accounting Manager

A well-established, Nashville-based general contractor specializing in commercial construction projects is seeking an experienced Controller to lead their Accounting department. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, ensuring compliance with licensing and tax authorities, managing accounts payable and receivable, and providing financial updates to the Executive Committee.

• Oversee and manage the company's financial activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
• Ensure compliance with tax authorities, licensing requirements, and contractual obligations.
• Review monthly financial reports, job schedules, and cost tracking.
• Monitor and manage company bank accounts and oversee cash flow management.
• Provide regular financial projections, WIP schedules, and other financial reports to the executive leadership.
• Supervise year-end accounting closeouts and lead annual budget preparation.
• Work closely with HR and Operations teams on insurance and financial planning.
• Lead and mentor a team of two project accountants, ensuring accurate job and general ledger code usage.
• Manage sales tax accruals, payments, and payroll tax filings.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or 5-7 years of related experience. Proven experience in commercial construction accounting (residential experience not applicable).
• Strong knowledge of GAAP; CPA or CFMA certification preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
• Experience with Sage accounting software is a plus.
• Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
• At least 2 years of experience leading a team, with direct reports.
