Overview
The Driver will be responsible for operating their assigned bus along designated routes, ensuring the timely and safe transport of passengers to and from various locations. This role requires excellent driving skills, a strong commitment to passenger safety, and a professional demeanor when interacting with internal and external stakeholders, such as faculty, staff, students, and other community members. This role supports a variety of campus needs including shuttle routes, student internship trips, academic field trips, and extracurricular outings.

- Operate college-owned buses along established shuttle routes to various locations in Leesburg, FL., surrounding areas, and for special events;
- Ensure the comfort and safety of passengers, including assisting individuals in boarding and exiting the bus;
- Serve as the Driver for club and organization trips as scheduled;
- Provide transportation in support of the Center for Career Development for student internship trips;
- Provide transportation in support of academic field trips;
- Provide medical transportation and inclement weather transportation;
- Monitor and enforce college transportation policies and safety procedures;
- Enforce the college’s Student Code of Conduct and report all violations in writing in a timely manner to the appropriate college official;
- Conduct pre- and post-trip safety vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety concerns;
- Log shuttle trips, mileage, and Code of Conduct violations in accordance with college and regulatory requirements;
- Maintain a strong customer service orientation with students, parents, staff and faculty;
- Communicate effectively with supervisor, passengers, and other appropriate individuals regarding schedules, delays, or emergencies;
- Ensure the assigned bus is kept in a clean and presentable manner;
- Follow all traffic laws and college safety regulations;
- Participate in ongoing training, including safety workshops, courses, college professional development, and policy updates; and
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and operations of the college’s transportation services.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge
- High school diploma required.
- Possess a valid Florida Class “A” or “B” driver’s license with a “P” endorsement required.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, regulations, and safety procedures.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for reporting and handling minor vehicle issues that may arise.
- Skills
- Strong customer service skills.
- Effective time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Recordkeeping skills for logs, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills for real time use in situations of traffic, weather, mechanical issues, or other emergencies that may occur.
- Abilities
- Must be able to operate all college-owned vehicles in a safe and effective manner in varying traffic and weather conditions.
- Must be able to operate wheel chair lift machinery and ensure proper wheel chair security and safety.
- Must be able to balance oneself, climb up steps, strongly grip objects, stoop, bend, push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for events and other needs required.
- Ability to interact in a professional and hospitable way with diverse individuals across campus.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment Department of Transportation medical examination.
- Individuals in this position will be subject to pre-employment drug screening, random drug and alcohol screening, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol screening in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation regulations.
- Successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, initiated by the college.
