Loudoun county department of family services seeks a dedicated and experienced professional for a cps evening investigations and assessments specialist.

the cps evening shift i&a specialist will be responsible for responding to emergency situations and providing crisis intervention, as well as investigating serious reports of abuse or neglect—including sexual abuse, human trafficking, and out‑of‑family incidents. The role involves conducting comprehensive assessments of children and their families by interviewing children, parents, guardians, and collateral contacts. Using a strengths‑based and trauma‑informed approach, the candidate will evaluate risk and safety, develop safety and service plans, and ensure the well‑being of children while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local policies, procedures, and regulations, including documentation standards for completeness and timeliness.
This position requires agility and resilience, as it involves urgent, high‑stakes decision‑making to ensure child safety. The ideal candidate will help foster a supportive, team‑oriented environment and demonstrate the ability to motivate and promote collaboration among colleagues. The work is conducted in a progressive, change‑sensitive setting that demands adaptability to shifting priorities, goals, and community needs. This position works with our afternoon/evening team with core work hours being monday‑friday, 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm, including rotating on‑call shifts to receive and validate referrals from 5:00 pm‑8:30 am or respond to emergency family situations, as required.

the successful candidate will:
- conduct and complete in-depth client assessments and/or investigations.
- develop individualized service plans for assigned cases and clinical case management, oversight, and therapeutic interventions to assist clients in achieving or maintaining the highest level of independence possible.
- document clients' service histories as required using appropriate state and local case management computer programs to open, update, and close records.
- provide courteous and timely customer service to county staff, vendors, citizens, and visitors.
- lead and mentor staff and provide appropriate work guidance.
- complete special projects as assigned, independently or as a team member.
