Part‑Time (Project‑Based) – weekly hours may fluctuate.
Duration:
Approximately 6–7 months (aligned to migration cutover schedule).
The Network Migration Technician will provide hands‑on technical support for a large‑scale Cisco network switch replacement initiative at Dulles International Airport. This role focuses on physical installation, racking, stacking, cabling, cutover support, and decommissioning of legacy switches, working closely with MWAA engineers during staging and migration activities. The technician will not be responsible for switch configuration but will play a critical role in ensuring accurate, efficient, and low‑downtime migrations across approximately 212 communication closets.
Responsibilities- Transport new Cisco network switches from staging/storage areas to assigned communication closets.
- Unbox, assemble, rack, stack, and power up Cisco Catalyst switches (9300 and 9400 series) in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and MWAA runbooks.
- Install rack hardware, stacking modules, power supplies, and cable management components.
- Cross‑connect and label Cat6 patch cables and fiber uplinks as directed.
- Assist MWAA engineers during migration cutovers by moving copper and fiber connections one at a time per approved Method of Procedure (MOP).
- Verify cable labeling, port assignments, and physical connectivity before and after migrations.
- Support migrations across low, medium, and high‑complexity communication closets, including expedited cutovers requiring minimized downtime.
- Safely remove legacy switches during or after cutover windows as directed.
- Transport decommissioned equipment to designated MWAA storage locations.
- Update daily inventory tracking for installed and decommissioned switches, including barcodes, models, rack locations, and closet identifiers.
- Follow MWAA change control, security, and access requirements at all times.
- Update daily cutover reports and provide inputs for inventory and status documentation.
- Coordinate closely with the onsite Project Manager and MWAA engineering staff during business‑hour and after‑hours migration windows.
- li>2+ years of hands‑on experience with network hardware installation and cabling.
- Practical experience racking, stacking, and cabling enterprise network switches.
- Familiarity with Cisco Catalyst switch hardware (3850, 9300, 9400 preferred).
- Experience working in data centers, telecom rooms, or communication closets.
- Ability to read and follow runbooks, rack elevations, and cabling diagrams.
- Comfortable performing physical work (lifting equipment, working in racks, confined spaces).
- Experience supporting network migrations or refresh programs in large enterprise or airport environments.
- Knowledge of Cat6 copper cabling standards and basic fiber handling.
- Experience working alongside network engineers during live cutovers.
- Prior exposure to inventory tracking and migration documentation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain MWAA airport security credentials and s.
- Must comply with all MWAA Orders & Instructions (O&I) and AOA vehicle requirements.
- Ability to pass background checks required for work in secure airport areas.
- Combination of daytime and after‑hours work.
- After‑hours migrations expected for a majority of end‑unit cutovers.
- Occasional extended shifts during high‑complexity cutovers.
- Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in equipment racks for extended periods.
