Simms Showers LLP, a growing Northern Virginia and Maryland based law firm, is seeking an Associate Attorney for our Labor, Employment, and Collective Bargaining practice area. Associates with Simms Showers LLP are full-time, salaried employees with opportunity for advancement. Compensation includes significant benefits, including health insurance options, paid sick and vacation leave, 401K retirement with 4% matching program, and a cash balance program and profit sharing.
- Serve as lead negotiator or key advisor in collective bargaining negotiations for labor organizations representing law enforcement/public safety employees.
- Draft, review, and interpret collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).
- Advise clients on labor law compliance under applicable state and federal law.
- Ability to navigate the changing legal environment as Virginia law on this matter develops.
- Represent clients in grievance arbitrations, mediation, and administrative proceedings in several different agencies.
- Counsel clients on labor relations strategy and organizing campaigns.
- Prepare legal opinions and policy recommendations on workplace and labor issues.
- Stay current with developments in labor and employment law and communicate relevant changes to clients or internal teams.
- 1-3+ years of experience in labor and employment law
- VA Bar License
- Legal writing, analysis, and drafting skills
- Ability and willingness to travel to different counties/jurisdictions in Virginia
- Familiarity with collective bargaining and labor relations
- Jury trial and other Court experience
- Prior judicial clerkship experience
- Experience in Arbitrations and Grievances
