D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Division Assistant Controller. The right candidate will support the accounting and financial reporting activities of the division by managing assigned accounting processes, reviewing financial results, and maintaining effective accounting controls. This position provides accounting guidance to division departments, develops accounting staff, and assists the Division Controller with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, audits, and other division financial activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Manage assigned division accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, job cost, inventory accounting, reconciliations, accruals, and related financial processes to ensure accurate and timely accounting records
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end accounting activities, including reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial information and resolving identified discrepancies
  • Review and analyze division financial results, including revenue, gross profit, job costs, inventory, overhead, and operating expenses, and identify significant trends, variances, or accounting issues requiring further evaluation
  • Maintain division accounting procedures and internal controls within assigned areas and evaluate transactions and accounting practices for compliance with established policies and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities by preparing and reviewing financial schedules, analyzing historical and projected results, evaluating assumptions, and providing financial information to division management
  • Partner with division departments to research and resolve accounting and financial matters related to land, inventory, construction, purchasing, sales, closings, and other division operations
  • Prepare and review financial analyses, management reports, account schedules, and other financial information used by the Division Controller and division management to evaluate operating and financial performance
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing financial schedules, supporting documentation, account analyses, and responses to audit requests
  • Supervise and develop assigned accounting employees by establishing work priorities, reviewing work product, providing technical guidance and training, evaluating performance, and ensuring established accounting deadlines are met
  • Identify and recommend improvements to division accounting processes, reporting, controls and workflows to improve accuracy, consistency, and efficiency
  • Conduct all business in a professionalandethicalmannertoservecustomersandincreasethe goodwill and profitof the company
  • Ability to travel overnight
  • Regular and reliable attendance
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Four to six years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including general ledger, financial reporting, account reconciliation, and month-end close responsibilities
  • Strong computer skills are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new programs/systems quickly is essential
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form or via DRH applications
  • Ability to sit for majority of 8-hours workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision
  • The noise level is generally moderate
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred
  • Homebuilding, construction, real estate development, or job-cost accounting experience
  • Experience with JD Edwards or a comparable enterprise accounting system
