Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil or Geotechnical Engineer to join our geoenvironmental and geotechnical practice in our Chattanooga, TN (preferred) or Knoxville, TN (optional) office. This position is well-suited for a talented, highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging projects involving landfills, dams, mines, sediment, brownfields redevelopment, and other water and waste containment systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks.

Some of the key responsibilities may include:

Civil design, landfill design, and site layout;

Geotechnical engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seismic, and seepage;

Dam inspections, evaluation, and design;

Geotechnical and environmental site characterization;

Development and management of instrumentation monitoring systems;

Project/task management and proposal preparation support;

Construction quality assurance oversight and management;

Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications;

Fieldwork associated with design and construction services.

Education and Licensure

Bachelor's degree in civil, water resources or geotechnical engineering or a related field. (required)

Advanced degree in earth science, geotechnical engineering or a related field. (preferred)

Professional registration (i.e., P.E. P.G.). (required)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

At least 8 years directly relevant experience in a consulting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)

Knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering software (e.g., seepage and slope stability). (required)

Knowledge of numerical modeling tools. (preferred)

Design and construction experience;

Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)

Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)

Field work and overnight travel may be required.

Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)

Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.

Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
