As an Assistant NRSWA Coordinator, you’ll play an important role in supporting the co-ordination of street works across the city. Working as part of the Network Management Team, you’ll help ensure works on the highway are managed effectively, and disruption is minimised as much as possible in line with the council’s statutory Network Management Duty.

The Network Management Team is responsible for managing activity on the highway network, working with utility companies, contractors, developers, internal council teams and other stakeholders to support the safe and efficient movement of people and traffic around the city. This is a varied post which combines technical assessment, co-ordination, system-based working and communication with a wide range of internal and external contacts.

This is a full time, permanent position working 37 hours per week. You’ll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at York House or working remotely from home, depending on service requirements.

What you’ll be doing

In this varied role no one day will be the same. Your day to day activities will involve, but not be limited to assisting with the assessment and processing of permit applications, permit variations, early start requests, extension requests and other related submissions. You’ll review applications for temporary traffic management, including road closures, traffic signals and other traffic control arrangements associated with works on the highway.

And help to co‑ordinate works across the highway network to reduce conflicts and minimise disruption to residents, businesses and road users.

You’ll maintain accurate records and update information on Street Manager and other relevant systems. Additionally, carry out invoicing activities related to NRSWA Permit fees, Inspections and other functions carried out by the service.

Within the role, you’ll monitor shared inboxes and respond to enquiries from utility companies, contractors, developers, internal departments and members of the public. You’ll also liaise with inspectors and other colleagues to ensure information is accurate, up to date and acted on within required timescales. You’ll attend and support internal and external meetings where required. And provide wider support to the Network Management Team as needed.

What

you’ll need

We’re looking for someone who is organised, detail-focused and comfortable working in a role that combines administration, legislation, technical assessment and co‑ordination. You’ll have experience of working in an administrative, co‑ordination, technical support or customer‑focused environment. With strong organisation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively, you’ll have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

In addition, you’ll have a proactive and professional approach to problem solving and service delivery. And be able to pay good attention to detail, particularly when working with applications, records and statutory timescales.

You’ll have good written and verbal communication skills. You’ll also have the ability to interpret information accurately and make sound judgements within set procedures. As a IT competent individual you’ll be confident using IT systems and databases, including Microsoft Office applications.
