Merrydale Junior School

Salary: Grade 6 Pay Point 9-10, approximate starting salary of £22,240 (Pending Support Staff Pay Award Salary Uplift)

Hours:

37 hours per week and 40 weeks per year (Term Time of 38 weeks, plus INSET training days & one additional week)

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 08:30-16:30, with an unpaid lunch break of 30 minutes

About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a highly organised and motivated Administration Assistant to work within our successful school team to provide confidential, effective, efficient and flexible administrative support to the school and wider community with minimal supervision.

As an Administration Assistant you will play a vital role at the heart of the school, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient running of daily operations while providing exceptional support to staff, pupils, parents, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produces and creates typed documents from hand‑written, pre-existing information, making layout presentation decisions.
  • Carries out discrete areas of work prioritising tasks, deciding how to perform tasks, using own initiative to get task completed (e.g. resolving non‑complex queries, problems).
  • Interrogates databases to produce less routine reports (may involve designing simple spreadsheets), identifying and solving problems with data produced.
  • Arranges meetings at the request of senior leadership team and takes notes of informal meetings, e.g. team meetings.
  • Responds to less routine correspondence, requiring non‑standardised factual response for signature by SLT.
  • Processes documentation (e.g. invoices, payments, journals and timesheets) to check or allocate nominal coding, verify calculations, obtain incorrect or missing information before passing for certifying.
Qualifications
  • NVQ 2 or equivalent, or equivalent level of experience.
  • Use of ICT applications relevant to the post, i.e. Word, Excel, Access, Power Point.
Experience
  • Experience of responding to members of the public in a work setting.
  • Experience of completing basic administrative tasks alongside working in a school setting.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to deal with a variety of people, including students, when necessary, sensitively, emphatically and, when necessary, assertively.
  • Able to operate effectively as a member of a team and with minimum supervision.
  • Able to be assertive when necessary, to achieve appropriate priorities and outcomes.
  • Able to make judgements about processing calls and correspondence (e.g. filtering, passing on to other staff, etc).
