Highfields Medical Centre and its Belgrave branch seek a full-time Patient Services Advisor Apprentice (37.5 hrs). Deliver friendly, confidential, professional support to patients across two busy sites serving 10,000 people. About the Employer

Highfields Medical Centre and its branch site located in Belgrave are looking to recruit a full-time Patient Services Advisor Apprentice (37.5 hours), to provide a friendly, confidential and professional service to our patients. We are a busy medical practice of two sites with a capitation of approx. 10,000 patients.

We are looking for a highly motivated, energetic and enthusiastic team member with excellent communication skills. Your ability to be proactive and experience of working in a customer care and administrative environment will deliver constantly improving levels of service. As a Patient Services Advisor, when dealing with the Public, you must be compassionate and discrete; with initiative to work effectively alone and efficiently as part of a team in a very busy, pressurized environment.

You will be required to work across both sites, shifts between 7.45am and 6.30pm Monday Wednesday and Friday, up until 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday & occasional Saturday’s.

You must have excellent IT skills and be a competent user of Word. Importantly, excellent communication and telephone skills coupled with previous reception and administrative skills and experience are essential along with an ability to prioritise and multitask.

Primary Care, within which General Practice sits, is evolving all the time and you must be able to demonstrate a commitment to cover all the multi-facet roles undertaken within a dedicated team, across both sites.

You will be automatically be enrolled in the NHS pension scheme.

Full training will be given to the right candidate along with a structured induction.

What You'll Do
  • Ensure a welcoming and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain practice processes and make new and follow up appointments
  • Ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need an ‘urgent’ consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those requiring temporary cover
  • Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery
  • Enter requests for home visits onto the clinical system, including all relevant information and where necessary refer to the on-call doctor
  • Action repeat prescription requests and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within 48 hours, either in person or by the electronic prescription service
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private services; accept payment and issue receipt
  • Enter patient information onto the clinical system as required
  • Ensure that relevant correspondence and reports and results and scanned onto the patient record accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ensure that consulting rooms are checked at the end of the day and are left tidy and secure
  • Undertake any training whether in house or at outside agencies as may be deemed necessary by the Practice Manager
