Building Control Surveyor
Location:
Leicester
Contract:
up to 12 months
Working Pattern:
Predominantly site-based
Pay : DOE but Umbrella Inside IR35
The Role- Examining deposited building plans to ensure proposed works comply with relevant Building Regulations and legislation.
- Carrying out regular site inspections to assess construction work and identify any non-compliance.
- Dealing with dangerous structures and demolition sites, including inspections, reporting and appropriate action.
- Undertaking enforcement procedures where building work does not meet legal requirements.
- Providing advice and guidance to architects, engineers, contractors, building owners and members of the public.
- Working with external agencies including Fire Services and other construction and regulatory professionals.
- Producing clear inspection reports, letters and maintaining accurate records.
- Supporting requirements relating to fire safety, means of escape, accessibility, energy efficiency and public safety.
- At least 2 years' experience as a Building Control Surveyor within an accredited Building Control organisation, unless professionally qualified.
- Comprehensive knowledge of building construction.
- Strong knowledge of the Building Act and Building Regulations.
- Good understanding of Fire Safety legislation and associated requirements.
- Experience inspecting building works and dealing with non-compliance/enforcement.
- Ability to assess plans and provide practical compliance advice.
- Excellent report-writing, communication and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- A professional and tactful approach when dealing with builders, architects, contractors and the public.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to undertake regular site inspections.
- Essential: HNC in Building Construction or a relevant diploma/degree in Building Control or Building Surveying.
- MRICS, CABE or CIOB qualification/membership.
- LABC Fire Safety Specialist accreditation.
- Experience working with complex or high-rise buildings.
