PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600 - £33,900 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OFTHE ROLE
Join BBC Radio Leicester as Journalist Producer for the mid-morning programme with Ben Jackson, leading the biggest conversation of the day across Leicestershire. You’ll produce compelling, agenda-setting content, react quickly to breaking news, and ensure the programme delivers engaging, high-quality journalism with impact across platforms. This is a key role driving editorial direction, storytelling and live output in a fast-paced environment.
YOURKEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
- Lead the editorial direction of the mid-morning programme, producing engaging, agenda‑setting content for a broad audience.
- React decisively to breaking news, ensuring fast, accurate and impartial coverage.
- Work closely with the presenter to shape the programme and drive compelling live output.
- Originate, research and produce high‑quality stories, interviews and packages across broadcast and digital platforms.
- Exercise strong editorial judgement, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, fairness and integrity.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Significant recent experience in journalism, including producing live radio or similar output.
- Strong editorial judgement and a clear understanding of the BBC’s news values and audience needs.
- Ability to generate original ideas and lead the development of compelling stories.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritising effectively and reacting to breaking news.
- Excellent knowledge of Leicestershire, with the ability to lead conversations that resonate locally.
DESIRABLE:
- Experience as a live output producer or in a similar leadership role.
- Strong live broadcasting and studio production skills.
- Ability to create content across multiple platforms (radio, digital, social).
- Experience working collaboratively across teams and supporting colleagues.
