University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust Locum Consultant in Clinical Oncology

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Oncology Department at the University Hospitals of Leicester as a Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist with an interest in Gynaecology, Skin cancers, Breast and Urology. This post will support, with other Consultant colleagues in the Centre, the provision of Oncological Services across the local network. Tumour site specialisation has been fully developed and the post holder will be expected to offer expertise in the management of Gynaecology and Skin Tumours.

Opportunity exists for development of other specialist interests, and these can be negotiated for the right candidate. In addition the successful candidate will be expected to explore opportunities to become involved in other exciting initiatives such as research and trials.

Main duties of the job
  • undertake clinical and managerial responsibility for the agreed oncology specialties and patients.
  • Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge in liaison with consultant colleagues
  • attend and partake in the management of patients through the specific MDTs
  • undertake research and show commitment to entering patients into clinical trials
  • share responsibility for the clinical standards of the oncology service
  • show responsibility for professional standards within oncology
  • work as part of the Multidisciplinary Team
  • attend national, network and local meetings as appropriate
  • demonstrate a firm commitment to clinical governance including participation in effective clinical audit and continuing medical education
  • co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services
  • contribute to management within the Trust through the CMG
  • participate in all teaching programmes for medical staff, medical students and other hospital employees as required
  • be included with other consultants in the On-call and Receiving On-call Consultant rotas.
  • comply with departmental and Trust policies and procedures

Job responsibilities
  • To be a core member of a dynamic medical team aiming to deliver first class cancer care to the East Midlands.
  • To specialise in the delivery of SACT/radiotherapy for Gynaecology and Skin malignancies
  • Participate in the Gynaecology and Skin MDTs working closely with surgical, Palliative Care and Oncology colleagues to provide a seamless service.
  • To demonstrate active participation in clinical trials helping to drive up trial recruitment and standards of care.
  • To provide leadership in clinical trials development and have an interest in clinical research.
  • To take an active role in undergraduate teaching
  • To carry out appropriate administration duties necessary to support the job.
  • Supervision, education and appraisal of junior staff.
  • To liaise closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies in contributing to meeting the objectives of the Clinical Management Team
  • To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents as defined in the Trusts Critical Incident Policy are reported in a timely manner.
  • To actively participate in audit.
  • To participate in yearly appraisal and the job planning process.
