To qualify as a surgeon, you must undergo extensive higher education in medicine. This typically involves completing a five-year medical degree and two years of foundation training. Afterwards, you embark on specialty training to focus on your chosen medical field.

Surgeons start their career with a basic salary of £32,398 and earn up to £131,964 as a consultant surgeon. Pay will depend on the type of contract, the type and location of the organisation, and any allowances or supplements that may apply.
