Main duties of the job
  • Support the delivery of a high-quality pain service meeting local and national targets
  • Support the delivery of high-quality anaesthetic services if applicable
  • Contribute significantly to the departmental teaching of the undergraduate medical students and anaesthetic trainees rotating through.
  • Work flexibly dependent on the exigencies of the department
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary and inclusive team
  • Assist in our determination to be a successful provider of a range of appropriate services to the local community.

An illustrative job plan is included in the attached job description (this may vary depending on the needs of the unit and the experience of the post holder). The final job plan will be agreed at appointment and may vary as the needs of the unit change and will be subject to annual review. The job-plan will be consistent with locally agreed Trust Job-Plan Guidelines and similar to those of consultant colleagues with regard to annual leave, study leave and on-call responsibilities etc.
Prior to completion of the initial job planning process all new appointments will be based on a 10 PA activity plan fitting in to the current work structure and expectations or part-time equivalent.

Person Specification Education, Qualifications and Special Training Essential
  • Full GMC registration
  • CCT in anaesthesia (or equivalent) (or to be within 6 months of CCT)
  • On the Specialist Register of the GMC (or entry expected within 6 months)
  • FFPMRCA
Desirable
  • Possession of other higher degree or diploma
Experience Essential
  • Evidence of undertaking a recognised Pain Fellowship (UK or international) or experience as a Consultant in delivering a pain service
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
Desirable
  • Training/experience in SCS implant/pump surgery
  • Experience in procedures for Trigeminal Neuralgia
  • Experience of patient education for group programs
  • Post-CCT experience
