The Urology service at UHL currently provides all urological activity – including all sub‑specialties – for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, and is a tertiary referral centre for cancer, andrology, stones and female urology. Urology currently has 6 NTNStRs and 18 Core/Foundation level Doctors who are employed on a rotational basis. We have a dedicated team of Clinical Nurse Specialists providing continence care, diagnostics (flexible cystoscopy, laser, urodynamics, LATP biopsies) and support to the stone and andrology teams.
There is a separate team of dedicated Cancer CNSs who provide support to patients during their diagnosis and subsequent pathway. They provide nurse‑led follow‑up for low/intermediate risk bladder cancer and treated kidney cancer. We have two physician associates who alternate to provide consistent bedside support for robotic cases. They also provide active surveillance clinics for small renal masses and prostate cancer and support the andrology service.
We have a progressive research unit and currently participate in a number of national trials, including in kidney cancer. We are leading a national multicentre trial in non‑muscle invasive bladder cancer.
