The Consultant Day-Case General Surgeon will provide expert elective surgical care for patients with abdominal wall hernias, specialising in laparoscopic and open hernia repair. The role focuses on high-quality, efficient day-case surgery, ensuring excellent patient outcomes, rapid recovery, and adherence to enhanced recovery protocols. The post holder will contribute to the development of a high-volume, low-complication hernia service and support multidisciplinary collaboration within the surgical team.
To provide a service for patients who present as an emergency to the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Leicester Royal Infirmary. To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care, as prescribed in GMC Guidance Duties of a Doctor, at all times; and ensuring that bad practice is reported, as appropriate. To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes place.
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients. To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients. To promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community. Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences. Supervise and train junior medical staff To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
Teaching, research and administration. To proactively develop the service. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
