Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Teacher of Social Sciences to join a successful secondary school from September 2026.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging and thought-provoking lessons across a range of Social Science subjects, which may include Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Health & Social Care and Citizenship, depending on experience and departmental requirements. The role offers the opportunity to teach at Key Stages 4 and 5, inspiring students to develop a deeper understanding of society, human behaviour and contemporary social issues.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious teacher who is passionate about their subject and committed to helping students achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver high-quality Social Science lessons that engage and challenge students.
Teach one or more Social Science subjects, including Psychology, Sociology, Criminology and Health & Social Care.
Prepare students effectively for internal assessments and external examinations.
Assess, monitor and track student progress, providing constructive feedback to support achievement.
Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of learners of all abilities.
Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and discussion.
Contribute to curriculum planning, development and departmental improvement initiatives.
Maintain high standards of behaviour, attendance and academic achievement.
Support enrichment activities and opportunities that enhance students' understanding of Social Sciences.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice and improve outcomes.
Participate in parents' evenings, staff meetings and professional development activities.

Requirements

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
A degree in Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Social Sciences or a related subject.
Experience teaching Social Science subjects at secondary level.
Strong subject knowledge and a passion for contemporary social issues and human behaviour.
The ability to inspire, motivate and engage students of all abilities.
Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
Strong organisational and planning skills.
A commitment to raising standards and promoting student success.
Experience teaching GCSE and/or A-Level Social Science subjects is desirable.
