SEMH Teaching Assistant Islington Immediate Start Are you an SEMH Teaching Assistant looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference, but with a clear understanding that the work will be challenging? This SEMH Teaching Assistant role in Islington is suited to someone calm, resilient and consistent, who can support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs in a structured school environment.
SEMH Teaching Assistant | Key Details £95-110 per day PAYE Full-time, term-time only Immediate start available Based in Islington Long-term role for the full academic year Excellent experience for aspiring teachers, therapists, SEN professionals, Youth Workers or Psychologists SEMH Teaching Assistant |
The Role Support pupils with SEMH needs, behaviour barriers and emotional regulation Work with pupils who may present as withdrawn, anxious, defiant, dysregulated or disengaged Provide 1:1, small-group and in-class support Help pupils follow routines, access learning and rebuild trust with adults Use calm, consistent boundaries rather than confrontation Support behaviour plans, pastoral interventions and classroom reintegration Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff and external professionals SEMH Teaching Assistant | Candidate Requirements Previous experience with SEMH, behaviour, mentoring, youth work or SEN is strongly preferred Psychology, Criminology, Education or related graduates encouraged to apply Must be patient, emotionally mature and able to stay calm under pressure Confident setting boundaries and following school behaviour systems Able to build relationships without taking challenging behaviour personally Reliable, professional and able to commit for the full academic year This SEMH Teaching Assistant role is not about simply helping in class.
