HOURLY PAID COVER TUTORS – HMP FOSSE WAY

£29.64 per hour | Variable hours | Monday to Friday

Do you like working in a challenging but rewarding environment where each day is different and time flies?

Are you an experienced teacher looking for a flexible role where you can make a real difference?

Milton Keynes College's Prison Services team at HMP Fosse Way is seeking enthusiastic and adaptable tutors to join our bank of hourly paid cover staff. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified teachers who enjoy variety and can confidently step into different curriculum areas as required.

Learners are typically motivated, though many have experienced disrupted education, low confidence, or additional learning needs. Your role is to inspire confidence, rebuild their relationship with learning, and create a positive, supportive classroom environment.

Sessions are designed to be engaging, practical, and relevant, encouraging learners to apply their knowledge to real-world situations while providing the structure and support needed to achieve success.

Subject Areas

We are particularly interested in tutors with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Functional Skills English
  • Functional Skills Maths
  • Personal and Social Development / Employability
  • Business
  • IT / Digital Skills
  • ESOL

The ability and willingness to cover multiple subject areas would be advantageous, and support can be provided to develop knowledge in new curriculum areas.

What We're Looking For

Minimum requirement: Level 4 teaching qualification or above.

You will also:

  • Have experience or strong knowledge in one or more of the subject areas listed
  • Be able to engage, motivate and support learners with diverse backgrounds and needs
  • Build positive and professional relationships with learners
  • Understand the transformative role education can play in reducing reoffending and improving life chances
  • Be adaptable, organised and confident delivering engaging learning sessions

Working Pattern

Hours are offered on a flexible, as-needed basis.

You must be available to deliver a minimum of either:

  • A full morning session (8:10am start)
  • A full afternoon session (finishing at 4:40pm)
  • A full day

All teaching sessions are 2 hours 45 minutes in duration.

Why Join Us?

This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference to people's lives. By helping learners develop skills, knowledge and confidence, you'll support progression into employment, further training and successful reintegration into the community.

As part of our prison education team, you'll work in a challenging, rewarding environment where no two days are the same and the impact of your teaching can be life-changing.
