About The Role
New Role – Permanent – UK Hybrid
The UK has set out its ambition to be net zero by 2050 and the energy industry is responding – together we are building a cleaner, greener Britain.
As part of our major projects, Strategic Infrastructure have been allocated five HVDC submarine cable interconnector’s projects which are all now under contract and ready to start construction. In the coming decade we will install over 3000km of HVDC submarine cable which will provide us with the largest offshore cable network in Europe, to do this we need to build a world‑class organisation, and we are looking for talented and skilled people to deliver this big work.
As Marine Installation Engineer you’ll work for our central engineering function and shall be assigned into a multi‑disciplinary project delivery team in one of National Grids portfolio of inter‑connector projects within the UK. You’ll be a technical expert that specialises in the design, installation and commissioning of submarine HVDC cable systems.

- Experience of submarine cable, offshore T&I or subsea projects combined with experience of major infrastructure project delivery in the offshore environment
- Technical experience of cable route design, cable burial risk assessment and installation analysis.
You’ll also be an effective people manager for this management grade role with great communication skills, capable of working effectively within a dispersed multi‑disciplined team and within joint venture project environment.

- You’ll be responsible for the scoping and managing the delivery of the Front‑End Engineering and Design studies that are required to inform the design envelope for the offshore cable route engineering and burial protection requirements.
- You’ll monitor contractor’s offshore works and for ensuring their compliance with the Employer’s Requirements, safety standards, construction programme and Contractor’s procedures. During construction, as Marine Installation Engineer you may be required to undertake duties offshore onboard the contractor’s vessel or to work remotely from the contractor’s premises.
- Support with the collating the technical inputs that are required for the project’s applications for Development Consent Order and for ensuring that all marine related pre‑commencement conditions are discharged.
- Provide support in tendering for the main works contracts and shall be responsible for the drafting elements of the employer’s technical requirements, and for supporting with the technical evaluation of the bids.
- Have responsibility for the employer’s review and acceptance of the contractor’s offshore engineering deliverables, and for ensuring timely delivery of all information required to achieve the discharge of license conditions and the MWS certificates of approval.
- Have responsibility for the monitoring of the Contractor’s weather performance and cable burial performance and support the Marine Technical Lead in evaluating vessel, soils and weather‑related claims.
- Own the employer’s review and acceptance of the contractor’s as‑built deliverables, and for supporting the Marine Technical Lead with the collation of the marine as‑built dossier.
A competitive salary between £61,000 – £83,000 dependent on capability plus a brand new hybrid or fully electric vehicle.
