Aboutthe Role
As the demand for our expertise continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clean Water Process Engineer (Principal to Associate Director) to join our Water Engineering teams located in Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Newcastle or Glasgow. Working within multidisciplinary project design teams, you will take a key role in process engineering design for water and water reuse projects across the UK and overseas, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed designs for procurement and construction, and review of supplier proposals.
Key Responsibilities- Produce process design deliverables such as optioneering studies, process calculations, mass balances, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation drawings, sketches, basis of design reports.
- Undertake outline or detailed process engineering design.
- Attend site visits for data acquisition and meetings with site operators.
- Provide technical input to the procurement process.
- Support Project Managers in technical discussions with clients.
- Engage in discussions and liaison with technology providers and vendors.
- Attend HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, SWIFT sessions.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior staff.
- Collaborate with other disciplines on multidisciplinary projects, ensuring integration into overall engineering design.
- Contribute to proposals, work scope, schedule and budgets.
- Communicate with the client (internal or external) ensuring their needs are met.
- Chemical or Environmental Engineering degree or MSc.
- Professional registration as CEng (or working towards Chartership within 12 months).
- Significant experience delivering process engineering design for infrastructure projects, including leading role on projects.
- Experience in the municipal water industry.
- Ability to work largely unsupervised in preparing/reviewing process design packages.
- Expertise in optioneering studies and feasibility, concept or detail design for municipal clean water treatment solutions (clarification, DAF, rapid gravity filtration, disinfection, taste & odour/pesticides removal, chemical dosing).
- Previous consultancy/engineering company experience as Process Engineer.
- Exceptional time‑management skills, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to prepare high‑quality technical reports and deliver presentations.
- Confident, articulate communicator for senior colleagues, clients, and sub‑contractors.
- Experience leading multi‑disciplinary meetings and acting as technical representative.
- Accurate, flexible work, integrating with other disciplines under programme and budget constraints.
- Willingness to travel and visit operational works and construction sites.
