About Us

Caterpillar Marine Power UK Ltd is located on the outskirts of Wimborne in the Ferndown and Uddens Business Improvement District. Positioned centrally along the south coast, it is located close to national and international transport links. With approximately 130 members of staff, there is a long and distinguished history spanning over 50 years of manufacturing marine propulsion and auxiliary engines under the Cat® and Perkins Marine® brands.

Genset packages ranging from 1.5 litre to 7.1 litre and 7.1‑litre propulsion engines are produced at the Wimborne site. The facility employs a wealth of hugely experienced designers, engineers and technicians used to providing solutions for commercial, pleasure, and military customers. From design, testing and building, each engine is proven before leaving the premises to ensure the best performance for the end‑user.

Job Summary

We are looking for a dynamic and driven leader to take the Manufacturing Engineering team to the next level. The role will help the whole manufacturing process run better by implementing changes to improve efficiency, leveraging new technology to modernise processes, and leading a team of experienced Manufacturing Technicians and Engineers to deliver excellence to both internal and external customers. What

You Will Do
  • Training and developing teams capable of completing business objectives and performing and supporting the plant operating functions.
  • Coordinating tool design, assembly, manufacturing processing, cost estimating, systems planning, layout, standards, releasing, etc.
  • Coordinating capital projects for process enhancement and to improve customer satisfaction, conducting research and ensuring proper approvals.
  • Coordinating the installation of new machines and equipment and process changes to provide the most efficient and economical manufacture or assembly of quality parts.
Knowledge and Experience – Lean Manufacturing
  • Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing and ability to integrate and implement lean philosophy into existing production and management processes.
  • Discusses considerations for work cell design and effectiveness monitoring.
  • Finds solutions for key technical and people problems associated with transformation to lean.
  • Explains issues and considerations of implementing lean in own function or area.
  • Selects and utilizes tools, techniques and measurements associated with a lean assessment.
  • Explains benchmarks and measures of effectiveness of lean.
Problem Solving
  • Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognising, anticipating, and resolving organisational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives.
  • Examines a specific problem and understands the perspective of each involved stakeholder.
  • Develops alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information.
  • Helps to analyse risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decision on resolution.
