Mechanical Design Engineer Permanent Full-Time
Location – Office based in Bedfordshire
Join a leading manufacturer specialising in high-quality lamination, coating, and heat transfer equipment. They provide innovative, customised machinery solutions for global industries including the aerospace, automotive, and medical sectors, focusing on technical precision and process efficiency.
We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who is proficient in Solid Works to lead the development of specialised machinery from initial concept through to final production. Your role will balance high-level mechanical design with practical technical documentation.
Responsibilities, but are not limited to- Lead the design of mechanical solutions, from concept through to detailed technical drawings
- Create 3D models and 2D technical drawings of mechanical components and assemblies, focusing on sheet metal, fabrication, rotating machinery, drive systems, linear motion, automation, and guarding
- Collaborate closely with other departments, customers, and suppliers to ensure designs meet both technical and business requirements
- Perform design analysis to ensure optimal functionality, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency
- Continuously evaluate and incorporate new technologies to improve product designs
- Generate supporting documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), design risk assessments, and equipment manuals
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in machinery design, preferably in special-purpose machinery or industrial equipment
- Proficiency in Solid Works 3D CAD is essential
- Experience with AutoCAD (2D CAD) is beneficial
- A basic understanding of electrical and pneumatic control systems as they relate to mechanical design
