Maintenance Engineer

Mission of the Role

The Maintenance Engineer ensures maximum equipment uptime, reliability, and safety across the manufacturing facility. This role involves troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical failures, optimising preventive maintenance programs, and implementing continuous improvement projects. The engineer also manages facilities maintenance, including contractor oversight for building upkeep and general factory repairs. The engineer should consistently demonstrate high efficiency and quality while minimizing repeat repairs.

Unsupervised work is expected in developing necessary skills, knowledge, and experience with applicable technologies and principles. Safety regulations must be followed, and risks, hazards, or incidents reported promptly to maintain a safe workplace.

Apply advanced diagnostic techniques and Root Cause Analysis to investigate chronic machine failures. Safely utilise PLCs, schematics, and testing equipment to minimise time to repair on critical production assets while showcasing craftsmanship and quality. Use breakdown data to identify trends and implement permanent corrective actions through TPM and service plan optimisation.

Act as the primary technical liaison with OEMs and third‑party contractors. Manage equipment service agreements, negotiate critical spare‑parts procurement, and ensure on‑site vendors adhere to plant safety and compliance regulations. Translate engineering needs into clear technical requests for proposals so vendors quote the exact machinery, parts, or services required.

Plan, organise, and communicate complex projects with internal and external parties, ensuring adherence to the timeline. Projects may involve installing, commissioning, and testing new production machinery or managing contractors for building works or machine service and repair.

The role requires general factory assistance, including transporting parts to multiple departments, lifting weights exceeding 5kg, working in tight spaces, and operating at various heights. Work hours follow an alternating shift pattern: one week of 06:00am–14:00pm followed by one week of 14:00pm–22:00pm (13:00pm–21:00pm on Fridays). Alternating weekend call‑out availability and standby hours of 08:00am–16:00pm are required. The listed responsibilities are not exhaustive;

• Engineering degree – Preferred:
  Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Experience:
  
  >5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, vacuum systems and PLC diagnostics.
• Strong problem‑solving and diagnostic skills.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with HSE, environmental, and site safety standards.
• Maintain a safe and tidy work area at the point of repairs.
• Competent in project management.
• Self‑driven to learn new skills and take on responsibilities.
• Competent in the use of computer systems – Essential:
  Microsoft Office and CMMS software.
