Experience with floorplan interpretation, including identifying racking layouts, equipment and circuit locations, as well as carrying out cable tracing and fault identification.
Reporting to the Head of Projects, the Telecommunications Engineer will support a nationwide infrastructure project with a leading tier 1 telecommunications company. This role involves working across multiple sites throughout England, carrying out rack recovery, cabling, fibre tracing, and network infrastructure activities within live telecom environments.
This is an excellent opportunity for engineers with strong data centre, transmission, fibre, and telecom infrastructure experience who are comfortable working independently and as part of a 2‑engineer team when required.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret floor plans to identify correct racks and infrastructure locations.
- Read and understand Visio rack, circuit, and equipment drawings to identify correct CAL references.
- Safely recover and move cabling while understanding when activities require:
- Two‑engineer verification and recovery procedures
- Trace copper, fibre, and COAX cabling to confirm correct services are being recovered or relocated.
- Work with CMTS COAX circuits where labelling may be limited or absent.
- Identify and interpret cable and fibre labelling including “to/from” routing information.
- Determine correct fibre lengths and connector types for new links or equipment relocation activities.
- Understand and work with all fibre connector types used within VMO2 environments.
- Identify equipment status indicators including:
- LIVE ports (green LED)
- Ceased ports (no LED)
- LOS/alarm states (red LED)
- Complete rack recovery activities and safely replace floor tiles after works are completed.
- Produce reports, order sheets, and documentation using Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong telecoms infrastructure and cabling experience.
- Experience working in live network environments.
- Fibre and copper cabling knowledge.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and rack layouts.
- Experience using fibre testing and tracing equipment.
- Understanding of transmission and network connectivity.
- Excellent attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Ability to travel extensively across England.
- Flexibility for overnight stays where required.
- Hotel accommodation provided where overnight stays are required.
- Subsistence allowance of £30 per night claimable via expenses.
