Design Manager – East Midlands & East Anglia
An opportunity has arisen to join the team at Galliford Try. Ideally based in or around the East Anglia area, with the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the region.
What you will be doing- Support the management of the design processes and information flow on Design and Build Contracts.
- Assist in the management of CDP Packages.
- Participate in creating a safe working environment.
- Manage relationships with client, sub‑contractors and Project & Design Teams for efficient development and delivery of designs on a project or bid.
- Monitor and lead the design process and provide updates to the Project Manager.
- Apply and monitor CDM 2015 principles of prevention and safety in design.
- Identify and mitigate design risk and realise opportunities through all stages of a bid or project.
- Assist in the selection of designers for a project and ensure competency checks are undertaken.
- Develop and agree the scope and responsibilities for consultants and invite fees for the compilation and management of the project fee schedule.
- Design programme in conjunction with the Planner and manage, monitor, and report on information release schedules, progress and quality of design deliverables.
- Contribute to value engineering and buildability by reviewing and identifying potential interface, buildability and coordination issues and resolving them with the design, project team and sub‑contractors.
- Report against design progress, quality and consultant performance as required by operation and design management leads.
- Ensure designs are complete including drawings, specifications and schedules following review process.
- Identify design approvals required and ensure information flow to client, GT team and subcontractor.
- Lead design meetings and ensure minutes are produced, distributed and actions closed out.
- Appreciate target cost allowances and ensure designs are within budget, liaising with commercial team to seek advice.
- Manage statutory and third‑party processes such as planning, building control and BREEAM.
- Undertake site inspections to ensure the as‑built product meets the design criteria.
- Good working knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
- Knowledge of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015.
- Experience with Design Management Tools, IRS, MIPD, DRM, Programmes.
- Knowledge of Design Information:
Drawing Types, Specifications, Schedules Reports. - Experience with a Common Data Environment:
VfP Approvals Process. - Knowledge of Statutory Approvals:
Building Control, Planning Process, CDM 2015, Fire Safety. - Familiarity with the RIBA Plan of Work.
- Understanding of Contract Law.
- Experience in education/schools projects.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Experience / understanding of BIM.
