Senior Quantity Surveyor Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team, focusing on hydrogen infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing commercial and cost aspects, ensuring successful project delivery while fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment. This position is based in Scotland on a hybrid working basis This is a minimum 12-month contract outside IR35.

Responsibilities Commercial & Cost Management
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, estimates, and cost plans specifically for hydrogen infrastructure projects.
  • Monitor project costs against approved budgets and forecasts to ensure financial control.
  • Manage cost reporting and commercial performance metrics, providing clear insights to project stakeholders.
Contract Management
  • Administer NEC contracts (Option A and

    E) efficiently and in compliance with regulations.
  • Manage contract variations, compensation events, and claims with accuracy and transparency.
  • Review contractual risks and support effective mitigation strategies.
  • Lead negotiations with contractors, suppliers, and service providers to achieve equitable agreements.
Project Delivery Support
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Process Engineers, and Construction Managers to support project execution.
  • Monitor project progress and assess contractor applications for payment, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
  • Participate actively in project reviews, risk workshops, and governance meetings supporting a proactive risk management approach.
  • Support schedule and cost integration activities to align with project objectives.
  • Conduct site visits and commercial audits to maintain project integrity.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for commercial and contractual purposes.
  • Support management of stakeholder reporting where applicable, promoting transparency and accountability.
Reporting & Close-Out
  • Prepare monthly cost reports and commercial dashboards to provide clear project financial status.
  • Produce forecasts and cash-flow projections to assist in financial planning.
  • Support project handover and preparation of final accounts ensuring all contractual obligations are met.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
Qualifications Essential
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of contract management and commercial principles.
  • Excellent analytical, financial, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and commercial management systems.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion in the workplace.
Desirable
  • Experience working on energy, utilities, infrastructure, or process engineering projects.
  • RICS Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) or working toward chartership.
  • Experience with hydrogen, renewable energy, industrial gases, power generation, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of electrolyser, storage, compression, and hydrogen distribution technologies.
  • Familiarity with UK energy regulations and net-zero initiatives.
  • Experience managing NEC contracts.
