Group Tax Manager

BTG Recruitment is partnering with a growing, acquisitive and regulated business to recruit a Group Tax Manager.

This is a broad and influential role for an experienced tax professional who wants to take ownership of the tax agenda within a complex group. You will act as the principal in house tax specialist, combining hands on compliance work with strategic advice across corporation tax, VAT, acquisitions, restructuring and tax governance.

The business is undergoing significant growth and transformation, providing an excellent opportunity to shape its tax processes, systems and controls.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing corporation tax computations and returns for the Group and its trading subsidiaries

• Calculating current and deferred tax for annual and interim reporting

• Preparing tax disclosures for statutory accounts and supporting the external audit

• Managing VAT within a partly exempt business

• Maintaining the partial exemption special method and completing the annual adjustment

• Advising on acquisitions, tax due diligence and post completion integration

• Supporting group restructuring and simplification projects

• Managing the Group’s tax governance framework, tax strategy and risk register

• Supporting tax forecasting, research and development claims and digital reporting requirements

• Improving the systems and controls underpinning tax reporting

• Managing relationships with HMRC and external tax advisers

• Explaining tax matters clearly to senior finance colleagues and subsidiary boards

The ideal candidate

You will be CTA or ACA qualified with strong UK corporation tax experience gained in practice or industry.
This role requires someone who is comfortable operating as the principal tax specialist within the business. You must be willing and able to complete detailed tax work personally, rather than relying entirely on external advisers or a larger team.

You should have:

• Hands on experience preparing UK corporation tax computations and returns

• Experience of current and deferred tax calculations for statutory accounts

• Experience supporting tax disclosures through an external audit

• VAT experience within a partly exempt business

• Knowledge of partial exemption special methods

• Exposure to corporate restructuring, transactions or acquisitions

• Strong Excel skills

• The confidence to advise senior stakeholders clearly and commercially

• The judgement to know when specialist external advice is required
Experience with in financial services or another partly exempt sector would be advantageous. Exposure to iXBRL tagging, Making Tax Digital, research and development claims or employment taxes would also be useful, although development can be provided in these areas.
