We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic HCPC state registered Biomedical Scientist to join our Fast Track Routine Haematology Department. With a passion for Haematology, you will be an experienced Biomedical Scientist who will join our team at an exciting time of change and modernisation. We are implementing exciting developments in how we deliver our patient care and you will play an essential role in shaping the future of our Haematology service.

There will be a requirement to work at any of the 3 University Hospitals of Leicester sites over a 24/7 period. The Haematology department has an active CPD scheme and encourages life‑long learning with emphasis on strong, personal and professional development. Main duties of the job

  • Perform highly complex examinations of clinical specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, including interpretation of results and blood film morphology, in an efficient, effective and safe manner.
  • Communicate critical results to users in line with laboratory policy.
  • Monitor internal and external quality control results, taking appropriate action to identify and correct problems. To report problems to more senior staff as appropriate.
  • Be able to work independently and manage own workload working to local and national standards within the HCPC professional code of conduct.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to assist the section manager in the daily operations and service provision of the department.

We are looking for good team players who can effectively contribute to the on‑going development of the services within the Trust. Candidates should also show an ongoing commitment to continued professional development and training / education.

You will be a well‑motivated, responsible team member who is able to manage high workloads, perform to a high quality standard and work as part of a team or on your own initiative with minimal supervision. You must be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, a flexible approach in line with the Trust agenda of service reconfiguration and be capable of working accurately and efficiently under pressure.

  • State Registered BMS (HPC)

  • 6-12m experience in a NHS laboratory setting or Healthcare Setting
  • Departmental specific laboratory / advanced techniques

  • Good interpersonal skills. Able to communicate concisely, effectively and clearly
