Live Well Leicester is an integrated healthy lifestyle service which supports the residents of Leicester city to improve their health and wellbeing by offering support with smoking cessation, increasing physical activity, managing alcohol levels, healthy eating, and weight management. We have a fantastic opportunity for a compassionate yet enthusiastic Stop Smoking Advisor to join our Live Well Leicester team to support the residents of Leicester to stop smoking.

Working closely with officers within the Live Well team and the wider Public Health team, as well as other internal and external services. You will provide people with the tools to make positive health changes, motivating them to stop smoking.

This is a full time, permanent post based at Braunstone Health and Social Care Centre working Monday to Friday, however you’ll be expected to work across hospital settings across all UHL hospital sites and Leicestershire Partnership Trust (LTP Sites) you must be able to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends by agreement to provide sessions to suit the individuals we support and be able to work occasionally outside normal office hours.

What you’ll be doing

As a Stop Smoking Advisor, you’ll work with secondary care and you’ll manage your caseload of clients and monitor their progress as well as making onward referrals where appropriate, to support clients in further enhancing their health and wellbeing. This will include planning and delivering treatment sessions, using motivational interviewing techniques and providing clients with tools to help them with stopping smoking during their pregnancy and the post-natal period.

By implementing behaviour change techniques and providing clients with the tools they need to succeed, you’ll aim to help them overcome tobacco dependency and provide clinical advice. As a confident IT user, you’ll maintain accurate records on the client record management system.

What you’ll need

With previous experience of supporting individuals to change their behaviour and helping them to facilitate these changes, you will understand the national and local agenda in relation to smoking cessation and tobacco and the impact of smoking on an individual’s health. Using your excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills you will have the ability to listen actively and provide clear explanations and clinical advice to clients and other professionals as well as ability to engage, influence and persuade others.

You’ll have NCSCT National Centre for Smoking Cessation & Training - Knowledge and Skills programme completed OR a able to complete this within 1 month of commencement in the post.
