Mammographer | University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust

This is primarily a clinical role with a degree of first line management to address service needs.

To act as part of a team responsible for providing the efficient daily delivery of the breast imaging service, ensuring that a high standard of patient care is delivered whist maintaining a quality service to agreed standards.

To provide a high quality mammographic service, including the screening, symptomatic breast clinics and surveillance and family history programme to the women of Leicestershire and Rutland

  • Adhere to the NHSBSP guidelines including monitoring of the equipment and quality standards
  • To prepare all mammographic equipment prior to using to ensure that equipment is working correctly and safely following agreed protocols.

Ensure that women attending for Breast Imaging are interviewed in the appropriate manner displaying an encouraging attitude to breast imaging and that women are supported and guided through the mammographic process

  • Assist in the department of systems of work including operational policies and procedures
  • To initiate and make recommendations towards changes in clinical practice for new ways of working

To adhere to the NHSBSPQuality Assurance Guidelines for Radiographer sand maintain high standards of clinical expertise in all aspects of Breast Imaging

About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust:
  • The Post Holder will work closely with the Radiologists, Superintendent Radiographers, radiographers and all other colleagues within Breast Imaging.

The Post Holder will also form working relationships with staff from other divisions and clinical business units as required by the role.

  • To maintain a high level of clinical expertise
  • To encourage and practice “right first time” radiography and strive to achieve quality assurance in all aspects of the service
  • To be responsible for the care and comfort of the patient whilst they are in the Breast Care Centre respecting their privacy, dignity, religious and cultural beliefs.
  • Perform technical administrative tasks, including accurate patient information, examination details and post processing requirements on Radiology Information and PACS systems including the NHS BSP system.

To undertake Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography and intravenous injection contrast media in compliance with protocol, following training and if required by the role – if required

To assist in monitoring the quality of service to patients and where appropriate in the development and implementation of proposals for improving services

To maintain NHS Breast Screening Programme Image Quality standards for mammographers

To assist in meeting and the collecting of data for the Quality Assurance and Quality control for the NHS BSP
