Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To maintain a high level of clinical expertise
- To encourage and practice "right first time" radiography and strive to achieve quality assurance in all aspects of the service
- To be responsible for the care and comfort of the patient whilst they are in the Breast Care Centre respecting their privacy, dignity, religious and cultural beliefs.
- Perform technical administrative tasks, including accurate patient information, examination details and post processing requirements on Radiology Information and PACS systems including the NHS BSP system.
- To undertake Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography and intravenous injection contrast media in compliance with protocol, following training and if required by the role - if required
- To ensure that all clinical and non-clinical information records are fully and accurately completed and maintained.
- To ensure all data input onto the Radiology computer system and National Breast Screening Programme by all staff is accurate and updated as necessary
- To take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves, other staff, patients and visitors, with reference to the Health and Safety at work Act 1974.
- Adhere to encourage staff to acknowledge all Local Rules, Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 and Health & Safety procedures, including prompt reporting of accidents, equipment faults and untoward incidents and new policies and procedures.
- To ensure the highest standards of radiation protection for staff, patients and visitors and to ensure a safe working environment in respect of other health and safety issues.
- Diploma of the College of Radiographers/BSc in Radiography
- Registered with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC)
- Evidence of CPD
- Member of the Society of Radiographers
- UK NHS Breast Screening Programme Certificate of Competency/Postgraduate award in mammographic practice
- Certificate of competency in IV injections
- Qualified Mammographer or band 5/ newly qualified radiographer with sound experience and clinical knowledge of radiography
- Ability to carry out radiographic procedures to a high standard
- Previous experience working/training in NHS hospital
- Sound knowledge of Ionising Radiation Regulations
- Previous supervisor experience
- Experience of NHS Breast Screening Programme
- Experience of Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography
- Experience or knowledge of working on a Mobile unit
- Knowledge of NHS Breast Imaging Services in UK
- Be able to speak, receive and issue instructions in English concerning patients without risk of misunderstanding
- Ability to communicate easily and effectively with staff and clients, in particular emphasise with distressed individuals recalled to assessment clinics
- Ability to work as part of a Team and build working relationships with people at all levels within the multidisciplinary team
- Ability in negotiating and influencing staff colleagues
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs.
