Work Location: County Hall, Leicester Rd, Glenfield, Leicester LE3 8RA

Salary: £25,191 - £25,590 per annum (pro rata for part time)

Working Hours: 37 per week

Contract Type: Fixed term for 12 months

Are you looking for a role that takes your technical skills to the next level and prepares for a role in the IT industry after your Degree? We have an opportunity to join our dynamic IT and digital team for a 12-month placement in a Cybersecurity/Infrastructure team that is using some of the Industry's leading technology and systems, including Cyber security (Microsoft Defender & Google Sec Ops SIEM), Cloud infrastructure, SQL, and Microsoft Azure.

Working with our existing teams you will develop your skills in some or all of these areas and have a great understanding of what makes a typical organisations IT Infrastructure work on a day to day basis. We will help you turn academic theory into day to day IT operational practise.

About

The Role

With your growing experience, you’ll work on a wide range of technology and systems, including Cyber security (Defender & Google Sec Ops), Cloud infrastructure, SQL, and Azure. You’ll work as part of small teams who will help you along the way, developing your knowledge and experience. You’ll help to give technical advice and information in a simple way, helping people working at the council to get on with their jobs.

You’ll solve problems and help to test systems to make sure they work and are up to our standards. You’ll learn about how we manage changes, upgrades, and problems. You’ll get the chance to work with different teams, who specialise in different areas of IT and digital. This will give you a great overview and some ideas about what you might specialise in.

Once you have the skills, there may be occasions where you’ll be work outside of normal hours and help with urgent issues or emergency support.

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:

  • Be working towards a degree that is related to IT, systems or cyber security
  • Be good at solving problems and communicating well with others
  • Know when to escape risks or concerns
  • Be able to focus on the customer
  • Have knowledge or a keen interest in technology, such as:
    • Cyber Security and disaster recovery
    • Cloud services such as Azure
    • Windows, Microsoft
    • Scripting toolsets and Programming languages, SQL, web development, or report writing
    • We use other technologies – this is just a flavour

In addition, we also expect you to share our commitment to our values and will ask you to evidence when you have demonstrated them as part of the selection process.
