Location: Leicester or Hursley Onsite 5 Days per Week

Duration: 6 months +

Security Clearance: Active SC or DV.

Our client is seeking an experienced DBA Specialist
, supporting critical database environments and ensuring the performance, availability, and security of key business systems.

This is an exciting opportunity for a database professional with strong administration, performance tuning, automation, and troubleshooting experience to work within a highly secure and complex production environment.

As a DBA Specialist, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimisation of critical database systems. You will play a key role in ensuring database performance, resilience, and security while supporting high-availability environments.

The successful candidate will be required to work onsite in either Leicester or Hursley five days per week and participate in an on-call rota for P1/P2 incidents
, with additional compensation provided.

• Design, develop, and maintain database schemas, tables, indexes, and stored procedures.
• Monitor and optimise database performance across critical environments.
• Perform database administration activities including backups, restores, patching, and upgrades.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues and incidents.
• Implement and support database security and access controls.
• Manage replication, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Support database scalability and resilience initiatives.
• Contribute to automation and operational improvements.

• Proven experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) or DBA Specialist.
• Strong knowledge of database concepts, architecture, and best practices.
• Experience with one or more of the following:
  • Oracle
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • PostgreSQL
  • MySQL
  • MongoDB
• Strong SQL skills.
• Database performance tuning and optimisation experience.
• Knowledge of database security principles and controls.
• Experience with backup, recovery, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Scripting experience, particularly Power Shell
  .
• Strong Linux and Windows administration knowledge.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a high-pressure production environment.

• Experience with cloud-based database services such as:
  • AWS RDS
  • Azure SQL Database
  • Google Cloud SQL
• Automation experience using Ansible
  .
• Awareness of Apache Tomcat and JVM environments.
• Experience supporting Very Large Databases (VLDBs).
• Knowledge of Net App ONTAP and Snap Center
  .
