Overview

The Deputy Theatre Manager will deputise for the Theatre Manager and support him / her in the provision of appropriate clinical and managerial leadership throughout the department. Maximising theatre utilisation, Consultant compliance and maintaining clinical standards, the post‑holder will provide strong leadership and direction to all staff across the service and act as a point of contact for advice and expertise relating to professional issues.

Review and assist in the delivery of patient care; ensure patient dignity, privacy and wishes are respected; provide appropriate clinical and managerial leadership; act as a role model and mentor to clinical staff, promoting good practice in line with legislation and Spire Healthcare’s policies; encourage, develop and enhance the skills of the team; identify, develop and support improvement opportunities in operating department practices through evidence‑based practice and national standards;

delegate activities to staff to ensure objectives are met; embed Clinical Governance and risk management in daily practice; promote best evidence‑based practice within own scope; apply and ensure compliance with legislation, policies and procedures; achieve theatre budget and specific KPIs; work with others to optimise theatre utilisation against booked operating sessions; manage staff rosters efficiently, meeting demand and maintaining compliance with KPI requirements and overtime balance;

ensure effective systems are in place for stock management; carry out audits/reviews and implement action plans; provide and receive patient information in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Spire Policies; and perform any other duties reasonably within the post’s nature and level of responsibility.

Job responsibilities

  • Work with others to optimise theatre utilisation in relation to booked operating sessions and availability to meet elective work demands, taking action with respect to under‑utilisation of lists as appropriate.
  • Manage staff rosters efficiently, meeting demand whilst maintaining compliance with the Agency staff KPI on the Clinical Scorecard and balancing the use of overtime.
  • Ensure that effective systems are in place to manage stocks according to financial instructions, efficient utilisation and intelligent ordering, working closely with the Finance Manager to ensure compliance.
