We are looking for a permanent Head of Transport Policy & Projects to join City Infrastructure’s senior leadership team, reporting to the Service Director. This is an exciting time for Brighton & Hove City Council with local elections in 2027 and devolution in 2028. The role delivers strategic transport policy, leads major transport projects, manages a £40m capital funding programme, freight risk and coastal protection, bus service improvement, road safety and the city’s transport plan.
Scopeand Responsibilities
- Lead Major Transport and Engineering Projects within the city.
- Manage a Capital Funding Programme worth £40m.
- Oversee Flood Risk and Coastal Protection initiatives.
- Provide the strategic overview of Transport Policy.
- Deliver the City’s Transport Plan and Bus Service Improvement Plan.
- Advance Road Safety programmes.

- Deliver the flood management strategy.
We’re looking for a versatile leader with a breadth of perspective and experience, including a track record of delivering projects, managing significant budgets and important framework contracts. You should bring a sound understanding of the regulatory frameworks and statutory functions within City Infrastructure, and practical experience of procurement and contract management. Ability to influence, advocate and broker agreement with a diverse range of stakeholders is key.

AdditionalInformation
This role has been designated a politically restricted post, restricting certain political activities under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. Salary will be pro‑rata if the position is less than 37 hours or term‑time only. A basic DBS check is required.
