We have Band 5 positions for experienced nurses in our Children's Short Stay Unit (CSSU).
We are looking to recruit dynamic children's nurses to join our friendly and talented team who strive to deliver high quality care to patients presenting with a broad spectrum of conditions.
This is a rewarding yet demanding role that requires dedication, and a genuine passion for providing excellent care to children and their families/carers.
Our excellent education programme gives you on‑going development and support. You can develop all of the core skills and take the opportunity to broaden your nursing experience. We have a dedicated Children's Educator who will work alongside you in the department and support you in your development. We offer many training opportunities delivered in house and also university and national courses.
The educational team also deliver weekly MDT simulations within the department and our training pod.
We welcome applicants from experienced children’s nurses and they must possess a current UK NMC registration.
Main duties of the jobCSSU is a 12 bedded unit which accepts admissions from the Children's Emergency Department (ED) 24/7 for up to 24 hours of stay. The unit cares for children and young persons age 0-17 years presenting acutely unwell with a range of illness, injury and mental health concerns.
CSSU is co‑located within Children's ED and the MDT work collaboratively between the two areas to deliver high quality care.
Main responsibilities include providing safe, high quality patient centred care to children & families.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidence‑based nursing care to a group of patients.
- Assisting and contributing in the management and organisation of a ward / clinical area.
- Co‑ordinate, organise and prioritise the work of the nursing team on a day‑to‑day basis. Supervise others and participate in their education and development.
- Contribute to the development of services, new ways of working and time implementation of change.
- Maximise the effective and efficient use of clinical, physical and financial resources.
- Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others.
- Act as a professional and clinical role model to all staff, patients, carers and the public at all times.
- Maintain effective and efficient communication with the Ward/Unit Manager and members of the multi‑disciplinary team on issues related to patient care and organisation of nursing teams.
- Act in a professional manner and ensure self and ward staff adhere to the UHL Uniform policy at all times.
- Deputise as appropriate for the Ward/Unit Manager or Deputy Ward/Unit Manager.
- Continuing education, professional and personal development.
- Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others.
- Undertake the Trust Corporate and Clinical Management Group specific Induction and competency programmes.
- Ensure own compliance and compliance of others with regard to mandatory training and NMC Professional re‑registration requirements.
- Responsible for maintaining up‑to‑date skills, knowledge and competence and awareness of professional issues.
- Undertake specialist education training as required that will allow healthcare to be delivered to the user through new ways of working.
- Actively promote and participate in Clinical Supervision/Mentorship or equivalent support mechanisms.
- Able to demonstrate a commitment and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs.
- Good basic understanding of the importance of delivering high quality clinical nursing care.
- Demonstrates knowledge of professional and NHS local and national nursing strategies and priorities.
