Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Support Team Leader/Matron to ensure clinical environment is safe, clean, comfortable and well maintained in line with patient and public expectations.

Ensure delivery of care to all patients when in charge meet the standards determined by the Sister/Charge Nurse/Team Leader.

Ensure self and team member's provide a personalised service to patients in accordance with agreed standards and promotes quality, diversity and rights.

Contribute to setting, maintaining and monitoring of standards of care to optimum levels and lead improvement of care through benchmarking, audit and research.

In the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse/Team Leader ensure adequate support, safe mentorship and supervision of learner nurses and staff.

Proactively seek feedback on patient and public experience in order to address concerns in a timely manner and build on success.

Person specification Training & Qualifications Essential criteria
  • RGN/- First Level/ODP
  • Recognised NMC Teaching and Assessing Qualification or equivalent
  • Evidence of Post registration Educational Continuing development
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Degree in nursing or health related subject
  • Clinical Leadership Programme(e.g. LEO, RCN, ILM
  • ITaps Practitioner In Charge Programme
Experience Essential criteria
  • Evidence of a number of years post registration experience of which a number of them are at a senior level in the capacity of Nurse In Charge within the speciality
  • Demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise
  • Good understanding of quality, safety and risk management
  • Knowledge of the role in the context of local and National plans and professional strategies to deliver services within the current and future NHS.
  • Experience of Patient and Public Involvement and qualitative data collection application to improving patient experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates knowledge of clinical risk management
  • Audit experience / research skills
  • Development of multi disciplinary working practices
