Job Description & How to Apply Below

An opportunity has arisen for an ECVO or ACVO Diplomate in Veterinary Ophthalmology to join our established and growing referral team at Pride Veterinary Referrals.

Your role will involve managing a varied and rewarding ophthalmology referral caseload, delivering exceptional patient care and collaborating closely with colleagues across our multidisciplinary hospital. Whether your interests lie in complex surgical ophthalmology, medical ophthalmology, teaching or service development, this role offers the opportunity to pursue your professional passions within a supportive specialist environment.

Pride Veterinary Referrals is a large, purpose-built multidisciplinary referral hospital based in Derby and forms part of the Scarsdale Veterinary Group. We provide specialist-led services in anaesthesia and analgesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, neurology, oncology and ophthalmology, alongside advanced practitioner-led cardiology and rehabilitation services.

Our state-of-the-art facilities include thirteen consultation rooms, seven hospital wards, five operating theatres, a dedicated cardiology suite, advanced imaging facilities including CT and MRI, interventional radiology, endoscopy, hydrotherapy and an in‑house laboratory. The hospital provides 24‑hour inpatient care supported by dedicated night staff and experienced referral nurses.

Our Ophthalmology Service

The ophthalmology service is currently supported by an ECVO Diplomate, three RCVS Recognised Advanced Practitioners and a dedicated Ophthalmology Nurse.

We benefit from two fully equipped ophthalmology consultation rooms, a dedicated ophthalmology theatre, a Zeiss OPMI Lumera surgical microscope and a Bausch + Lomb Stellaris phacoemulsification system.

Pride Veterinary Referrals also works closely with the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, supporting undergraduate clinical training and creating opportunities for teaching and professional development.

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we’re trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

How You’ll Make a Difference

You will join our experienced ophthalmology team and play a key role in delivering outstanding referral‑level ophthalmology care to patients, clients and referring veterinary surgeons.

Working closely with colleagues across the hospital, you will contribute to the investigation and management of both routine and complex ophthalmic cases while supporting the continued development and growth of the service. You will demonstrate a passion for collaboration and clinical excellence, helping to maintain the high standards for which Pride Veterinary Referrals is known.

You will also support the development of colleagues through mentoring, supervision and knowledge sharing. There will be opportunities to become involved in undergraduate teaching through our relationship with the University of Nottingham, contribute to clinical club discussions, present interesting cases and deliver continuing professional development (CPD) to referring veterinary professionals.
