Our client Leicestershire County Council is looking for a Senior Social Worker to work as a CP and Court worker.

Job Purpose

To undertake high-quality statutory social work with children, young people and families, with particular responsibility for complex safeguarding, child protection and court-related work.

The post holder will promote the safety, welfare and best interests of children through effective assessment, analysis, intervention, care planning and review. They will manage a complex caseload and provide professional support, guidance and role modelling to less experienced social workers and other colleagues.

The role requires effective partnership working with children and families, education, health, police, legal services and other agencies. The post holder will contribute to Child Protection processes, Public Law Outline (PLO) activity and care proceedings, ensuring that social work practice is evidence-based, child-centred and compliant with statutory requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Child Protection and Safeguarding

Undertake complex child protection and safeguarding work in accordance with legislation, statutory guidance, local procedures and professional standards.
Assess concerns relating to abuse, neglect, domestic abuse, exploitation and other safeguarding risks.
Undertake appropriate assessments and analyse information to identify strengths, risks and protective factors.
Develop and implement effective child protection plans and interventions.
Ensure that the child's voice, wishes and feelings remain central to assessment and decision-making.
Monitor progress and review whether interventions are reducing identified risks.
Take appropriate action where circumstances deteriorate or new safeguarding concerns emerge.
Work effectively with families while maintaining professional curiosity and appropriate challenge.

2. Court and Legal Work

Undertake social work associated with care proceedings and other court-related matters.
Work within Public Law Outline (PLO) processes where required.
Prepare clear, accurate and evidence-based statements, assessments and reports for court.
Gather, analyse and present relevant evidence regarding children's needs, welfare and risk.
Liaise effectively with the local authority legal team, Cafcass, children's guardians, solicitors and other professionals.
Attend court hearings and provide professional evidence and recommendations when required.
Ensure court directions and timescales are understood and complied with.
Maintain accurate records of decisions, actions and professional analysis.
Ensure recommendations to court are proportionate, evidence-based and focused on the child's welfare.

Leicestershire's published senior practitioner role specifically includes supporting attendance and information sharing at formal meetings including Child Protection, PLO and Court processes.

3. Assessment and Case Management

Hold and manage a caseload consisting primarily of complex cases.
Undertake assessments that demonstrate sound professional judgement, analysis and evidence-based decision-making.
Develop appropriate plans with children, families and partner agencies.
Review cases regularly and ensure interventions remain purposeful.
Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive case records.
Manage competing priorities and statutory timescales effectively.
Escalate concerns appropriately where risks cannot be safely managed.
