Position: Assistant Professor in Computer Science and Business (0,8-1.0 fte)

We seek a candidate with strong expertise and proven research record in areas such as software engineering, AI system engineering, software product development, technology management, digital transformation, business applications of generative or agentic AI, software analytics, or AI for software engineering. The ideal candidate has demonstrated the ability to combine technical depth with organizational impact. You will complement and strengthen our research on software and AI, and their application in business and government.

We are particularly interested in candidates with the ability to teach software, data, and/or AI courses at the master level tailored to students from different science backgrounds. The successful candidate will contribute to the Business Studies specialization of our Computer Science program, in which our institute offers courses on the interface between computer science and business studies. This includes teaching several courses and supervising master and bachelor students during their thesis research projects, often including an internship in a company or government organization.

The teaching duties for this position will start in Fall 2026, allowing ample time for integration into our academic community. In addition to research and teaching, the successful candidate is expected to secure external research funding to build their own research group and to supervise bachelor’s and master’s students. The successful candidate will be embedded in the Software and AI in Business research cluster at LIACS, the Computer Science and AI institute of Leiden University, offering a collaborative and supportive environment that values cross-group collaborations.

What

you will do
  • Conduct independent research in computer science and business;
  • Teach two courses annually related to your research as the main lecturer and contribute to other relevant courses and educational activities;
  • Obtain the University Teaching Qualification (BKO) within 2 years;
  • Supervise bachelor and master students doing their thesis research project;
  • (Co-)supervise PhD students;
  • Secure external funding for research projects;
  • Participate in institutional committees and contribute to academic activities within the institute, Leiden University, and the broader Dutch academic community;
  • Contribute to the development and promotion of the Business Studies specialization for Computer Science;
