Job Description & How to Apply Below
Job Description
Are you ready for an offshore internship you’ll never forget on one of our crane vessels or tugs, starting this January/February 2027? At Heerema Marine Contractors, we operate the world’s largest crane vessels and work on complex offshore projects worldwide, from installing wind turbines to removing offshore platforms and lifting structures of up to 50,000 tons. Our work is challenging, innovative, and impactful.
As an intern, you will become part of the crew and gain real hands‑on offshore experience. Each year we offer nautical, technical, and combined internships on board our crane vessels and tugs. For students following the Ship Electronics (ETO) minor, we also offer dedicated technical internships. An internship at Heerema gives you valuable practical experience, professional guidance, and a strong foundation for your maritime career.
Your role during the internship
Support daily operational activities on board
Gain hands‑on experience in offshore lifting, installation, and decommissioning projects
Participate in nautical and/or technical tasks
Learn from experienced Captains, Chief Engineers, and crew members
Develop the practical skills required for your vocational or bachelor maritime education
Key ingredients for success
You are currently enrolled in a Dutch vocational (MBO) or bachelor (HBO) Maritime Officer program and:
You are eager to learn and open to feedback
You take initiative and responsibility
You are social, flexible, and motivated
You are not afraid to ask questions
You have a strong interest in offshore wind, oil & gas, and heavy lift operations
From whom you will learn
During your internship you will be guided by experienced and qualified colleagues. You will work closely with our professional and highly skilled Engineers, who will support you in your development and help you build your technical and operational expertise. As several activities overlap with the electrical department, close collaboration between both teams is essential, giving you valuable insight into multidisciplinary offshore operations.
Your Foundation for Success
At our core, we champion an entrepreneurial spirit and a relentless pursuit of growth. We seek individuals who excel in personal development, seize opportunities, and turn challenges into success. You’ll thrive if you think creatively, drive goals with determination, and add value to diverse teams. Together we create impact and drive meaningful change, always focused on results.
Why interns love learning with us
An international environment with challenging projects
An extensive onboarding process and endless opportunities to develop
The opportunity to challenge yourself in an offshore environment and gain valuable knowledge and experience
Comfortable cabins, fitness facilities, excellent catering, and onboard recreational activities
A strong focus on safety and sustainability
