About this position
Biomedical Research (BMR) department supports efficient development of drugs and health interventions by creating tools, technology, and models that facilitate research at every stage of the development pipeline. From target discovery to preclinical efficacy analysis, advanced analytics and pharmacokinetics, we collaborate with pharmaceutical and nutritional industries and numerous academic partners to drive innovation. Our state-of-the-art lab facilities in Leiden include AMS (Accelerator Mass spectrometry), LC-HRMS and Maldi-TOF MS systems.
What will be your role?As a Research Technician Protein Sciences, you will combine laboratory work with experimental planning, data analysis and project support activities. You will contribute directly to the development and execution of innovative research strategies for current and future projects. You have an entrepreneurial mindset and enjoy working with industrial stakeholders/clients for optimized implementation of new technologies in drug development. You will be responsible for the practical (hands-on) execution of experiments as well as the preparation, documentation, and analysis of research results.
- Develop and perform experiments supporting pharmacokinetic studies of biologics and biosimilars.
- Establish and maintain mammalian cell culture systems.
- Isolate, purify, and characterize proteins using chromatography-based techniques.
- Applying key biochemical concepts by developing, optimizing, and running biochemical assays – including enzymatic, binding, and activity-based assays.
- Prepare research protocols and document experimental activities.
- Translate biochemical insights into actionable results by analyzing, interpreting and reporting data within research projects.
- Organise, schedule and coordinate experimental activities across multiple projects.
- Communicating findings clearly to project teams and (external) project collaborators.
You will report to the Research Manager of the Biomedical Research department and become part of the growing Advanced Analytics team. The team currently consists of approximately twelve colleagues with expertise in bioanalysis, biologics, pharmacokinetics and advanced analytical technologies. Together, you will contribute to research programs with both scientific and industrial impact. Within the projects you report to the project manager and the project scientific lead.
What we expect from you- You are an experienced research technician with a strong background in protein sciences and bioanalysis. You enjoy working in a research environment where new methodologies are developed, validated and applied to address complex scientific questions.
- You are pro-active, structured and you enjoy working in a dynamic multidisciplinary environment.
- Bachelor/Master degree in Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or a related discipline.
- At least three years of relevant experience in a research and development environment.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and protein expression.
- Proven experience with protein purification, and chromatography techniques.
- Experience in biologics pharmacokinetic (PK) studies or bioanalytics is a pre.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- A Radiation Protection Certificate 5B (or equivalent) is preferred. Candidates who do not yet hold this certification should be willing to obtain it through training.
