Looking to build a proper career in personal tax rather than simply process returns?

A growing accountancy firm near Leighton Buzzard is looking for a Personal Tax Semi-Senior to join its tax team. This is a development-focused position for someone who already has experience within personal tax but wants greater exposure, more client responsibility and a clear route towards Senior level.

You don't need to arrive with extensive advisory experience. The priority is finding someone with a good grounding in UK personal tax compliance who is keen to keep learning.

You'll work with a varied portfolio of personal tax clients, gradually taking greater ownership as your experience develops.

Your work will include:

• Preparing Self Assessment tax returns
• Gathering and reviewing information from clients
• Dealing with day-to-day personal tax queries
• Communicating directly with clients regarding their affairs
• Liaising with HMRC when required
• Keeping work progressing ahead of key tax deadlines
• Supporting senior members of the tax team on more complex matters
• Building exposure to advisory work over time

This could suit someone currently working as a Personal Tax Assistant, Tax Assistant or Personal Tax Semi-Senior who feels ready for more responsibility.

You’ll ideally have:

• Personal tax experience within a UK accountancy practice
• Hands-on experience preparing Self Assessment returns
• A good understanding of personal tax compliance
• Confidence dealing with clients by phone and email
• Strong organisation and attention to detail
• An interest in developing your technical knowledge

ATT study or qualification would be useful, but the firm is more interested in your practical experience and potential than simply ticking qualification boxes.

This isn't a role where you're expected to already operate at Senior level. You'll be joining a growing practice where you can strengthen your technical knowledge, take on increasing responsibility and develop towards the next stage of your career.

Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 depending on experience
