Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Leiston for Ground workers and a Groundworker Supervisor. Day‑to‑day duties for Ground workers include preparing and maintaining construction sites, carrying out excavation and back filling, laying foundations, installing drainage, and assisting with kerbing, paving, and general groundworks activities. Responsibilities also involve using hand and power tools safely, following site instructions, complying with health and safety procedures, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
The Groundworker Supervisor will oversee groundworks teams, coordinate daily tasks and resources, monitor work quality and progress, ensure adherence to safety standards, and communicate effectively with site management and subcontractors. Both positions require close collaboration with colleagues on‑site to help deliver projects safely, efficiently, and to specification.
- Valid CSCS or CSCS Card demonstrating competency and eligibility to work on construction sites.
- Strong groundworks skills, including experience with excavation, drainage, foundations, and related site preparation tasks.
- Experience in landscaping and working with trees, including site clearance, planting, and maintaining external areas, is advantageous.
- Proven ability to follow and promote strict health and safety standards on‑site.
- For the supervisor role: prior experience leading groundworks teams, coordinating tasks, and communicating with site management.
- Ability to read and follow site drawings and instructions, with strong attention to detail and quality.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a diverse site team in varying weather conditions.
- Relevant vocational training or apprenticeship in construction or civil engineering is beneficial.
