Job Description

Today, Assystem is among the top three independent nuclear engineering firms worldwide. With over 60 years of experience in highly regulated sectors, the group supports public and industrial stakeholders in the execution of complex and strategic infrastructure projects, subject to high safety and security requirements. Assystem mobilizes 8,000 experts in 13 countries and intervenes across the entire project lifecycle, in engineering, project management and digital solutions.

Our Environmental Consents & Engagement (ECE) practice provides strategic environmental advice, consenting expertise and stakeholder engagement to enable the successful delivery of major developments across the UK.

Join Assystem and help deliver one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects

Assystem is seeking an experienced surface water consultant / hydrologist to join our growing environmental team, supporting the delivery of the Sizewell C project. This provides a unique opportunity to combine the support and career development of a global engineering consultancy with the experience of working at the heart of one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects. In this role, you'll be embedded as an integrated member of the project team while remaining part of Assystem's wider environmental practice.

You'll benefit from the support, mentoring and career development opportunities of Assystem, while gaining invaluable experience working directly with one of the UK's largest construction programmes.

This is not a traditional design consultancy role. Instead, you'll provide technical oversight and assurance for surface water management across a major construction project, helping ensure that drainage, water management and environmental requirements are aligned throughout project delivery.

Working closely with environmental specialists, designers and construction teams, you'll review technical information, identify potential risks and provide practical advice to resolve issues before they become problems.

Role Summary

You'll act as a technical advisor on surface water management, supporting the successful delivery of construction activities across the project.

  • Reviewing technical reports and design information relating to surface water management.
  • Assessing the suitability of proposed drainage, attenuation and discharge solutions.
  • Supporting the management of surface water across both natural and engineered drainage systems.
  • Reviewing water quality information and interpreting environmental monitoring results.
  • Advising on appropriate approaches to water quality monitoring and discharge where required.
  • Supporting the technical review of information used within environmental permits and consents.
  • Working closely with environmental, engineering and construction teams to ensure a coordinated approach to water management.
  • Responding to emerging issues during construction and helping develop practical, risk-based solutions.
  • Providing technical feedback to design and project teams.
  • Identifying inconsistencies, technical risks and opportunities for improvement.
