Job Summary

Leiston Pharmacy is seeking a reliable and experienced Pharmaceutical Technician to join our established community pharmacy team in Leiston, Suffolk.

The successful candidate will support the Pharmacist in the safe and efficient delivery of pharmacy services, including prescription preparation, medicines management, stock control and patient support. This position is suited to someone with previous community pharmacy experience who can work accurately in a busy environment while maintaining a high standard of patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Pharmacist with the preparation, dispensing and supply of prescribed medicines.
  • Process prescriptions accurately and ensure an efficient workflow within the dispensary.
  • Carry out final accuracy checks where appropriately qualified and accredited.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential Patient Medication Records (PMR).
  • Provide patients and customers with appropriate information regarding prescribed and over-the-counter medicines.
  • Assist with the ordering, receiving, storage and rotation of pharmaceutical stock.
  • Monitor stock levels and help minimise shortages, wastage and expired medicines.
  • Support the safe management and record-keeping of Controlled Drugs in accordance with relevant procedures and legislation.
  • Assist in supervising and supporting dispensary and counter staff during daily operations.
  • Respond professionally to patient enquiries and refer clinical matters to the Pharmacist when appropriate.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, confidentiality, cleanliness and safety within the pharmacy.
  • Complete relevant workplace training and maintain professional knowledge appropriate to the role.
Skills
  • Good knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, medicines and dispensing procedures.
  • Strong numerical skills and confidence with pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload in a busy community pharmacy environment.
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a pharmacy team.
  • Competence in maintaining accurate pharmacy and patient records.
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of previous community pharmacy experience is required.
  • Previous experience handling prescriptions and supporting dispensing activities is essential.
  • Experience with pharmacy stock management and Patient Medication Record systems is desirable.
  • Experience supervising or supporting junior dispensary or counter staff would be advantageous.
Qualifications

Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent level of study in Pharmacy OR a recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification.

Overseas qualifications may be considered where appropriate, subject to evidence of UK ENIC comparability/equivalence.

Relevant dispensing, accuracy checking or pharmacy-related professional qualifications would be advantageous.

Working Schedule

The role is primarily Monday to Friday, with availability to work alternate weekends as required.
