Position: Teacher of Modern Studies with Criminology Academy

Overview

Teacher of Modern Studies with Criminology at Leith Academy. This full‑time, permanent position is part of the Social Subjects Faculty, covering S1 Social Subjects, S2 and S3 Modern Studies, N4/5 Modern Studies, N5 and Higher Sociology.

Compensation and Working Hours

Salary: £35,022 – £52,740.

Hours:

35 per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, deliver and assess lessons across the modern studies curriculum, including Social Subjects in S1, Modern Studies in S2–S3, N4/5 Modern Studies, N5 and Higher Sociology.
  • Embed digital literacy into teaching using a variety of digital methodologies.
  • Support students in developing a portfolio of skills, experiences and qualifications to prepare them for post‑school options.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Qualified teacher of modern studies or a related subject, with recent experience of teaching in a secondary school.
  • Informed about modern study and sociology curriculum and able to provide challenging and creative learning experiences.
  • Proven commitment to embedding digital literacy in the classroom.
  • Required to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) scheme or provide an updated check. A recent overseas criminal record check is also required for those who have spent 3 months or more abroad in the last 5 years.
  • Commitment to the school's values of diversity, fairness, honesty and respect.
