We’re hiring a Director of Community Development to lead the Tribe’s Community Development, Cultural Services, and Tribal Environmental Protection Agency functions. You will provide strategic direction and administrative oversight for programs that advance community planning, cultural preservation, environmental protection, interdepartmental coordination, and other Tribal priorities.
This is a full-time, exempt position based in Lemoore, California, reporting to the Tribal Administrator. The annual salary range is $104,000–$. The role includes work in office and field settings, travel to meetings, project sites, and conferences, and possible on-call responsibilities for emergency situations.
What you’ll do- Community Development: Direct programs, projects, staff, budgets, and work plans; coordinate community planning, infrastructure, housing, facilities, land-use, and other development initiatives.
- Planning, funding, and administration: Develop long-range strategies, policies, procedures, ordinances, budgets, forecasts, contracts, grant applications, compliance reports, and implementation plans aligned with Tribal priorities.
- Cultural Services: Oversee programs, staff, budgets, events, education, outreach, language preservation, and partnerships that protect and promote Tribal culture, history, traditions, and community identity.
- Cultural resource protection: Coordinate with the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer, leadership, cultural staff, monitors, and agencies; ensure appropriate protocols for culturally sensitive information, artifacts, ancestral remains, and historic resources.
- Environmental protection: Lead TEPA programs involving land, air, water, natural resources, environmental health, monitoring, assessment, waste management, pollution prevention, restoration, and emergency response.
- Compliance and partnerships: Ensure compliance with applicable Tribal, federal, and state requirements, grants, permits, and program standards, and serve as liaison to governmental agencies, consultants, Tribal programs, and regional partners.
- Operations and supervision: Manage environmental equipment, vehicles, monitoring systems, records, and technical resources while supervising assigned staff, including hiring, training, work assignments, performance management, discipline, time, attendance, and schedules.
- Attend meetings, trainings, community events, and required gatherings, and perform other duties as assigned.
This role may be a strong fit if you are an experienced, collaborative leader who can guide multiple programs while respecting Tribal sovereignty, cultural values, confidentiality, and community priorities. You should be comfortable coordinating complex projects, managing budgets and grants, interpreting regulatory requirements, and communicating with Tribal leadership, staff, community members, agencies, consultants, and external partners.
